“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it” (First Thessalonians 5:23-24 NIV).
In the homeschool classroom, our students are learning to draw and label different parts of the body. By the end of the year, they will be able to draw and label the anatomy of the human body by memory. That said, in class this week, we labeled and drew the skin and then talked about what we drew and labeled through the lens of Ezekiel 37:4-6.
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
In these verses, we noted the respiratory system (breath), the heart (“you will come to life”), the skin (flesh, skin), and the skeleton (“dry bones”). We talked about how the skin protects “the [physical] internal environment” just like the “full Armor of God” protects our spiritual internal environment (See Ephesians 6:10-20). “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (v. 13).
